Who are you?

The other day I was in the doctors office, waiting, waiting and oh waiting some more. 9:30 my butt, more like 11. Besides the point. I am sitting in the office surrounded by really old people who just got hip surgery or knee replacement or other old people stuff. Feeling a little out of place I turned on my Zune to listen to music and play games for the hour and half. Of course I leave one headphone out so I can hear my name. Well the nurse calls a lady in who's name was Jane something. Dunno. Then the next person called was something Doe. Naturally my mind feels like they just called a Jane Doe in and not two totally random people. Mind you there was a lot of time between the names. I mean these are old people who have had surgery... they move very slow. Poor nurses.

Hearing that name reminded me of this new song I like called "Jane Doe" by Never Shout Never. Good Band, recommend him. As my mind wandered I got to thinking about some one whose parents actually names them Jane doe or John doe. I thought about how mean those parents would be. Thats almost as bad as naming your kid after fruit or food. Think of the jokes. Then I thought about what if a girl was named Jane and she married a guy with the Last name Doe. Then her name would be Jane Doe, and then my mind just took off from there.

So here are the thoughts:
If your name was Jane Doe... would you get lost in the system? Would people like not know who you are or think that you just don't want to tell them your real name? Would you then not have any friends because every one thought you were a mystery? If you died would they be able to find your family or would they think that you were a no name that's body was just randomly found? If you were in the hospital would the doctor think you had amnesia because your name is the name of a lost or forgetful person? Would they treat you for something you didn't have? Then again you could tell them but it would be super confusing. Imagine that conversation.
Doctor: So do you remember what year it is?
Jane: 2010
Doctor: What State are you in right now?
Jane: Utah
Doctor: Do you remember your name?
Jane: Yeah Jane Doe
Doctor: Do you remember your real name?
Jane: Yes JANE DOE!

It would be like Who's on first. That would be annoying to tell over and over when people asked. How about school. A teacher might think it was a prank or joke when they call roll and they say JANE DOE. Then there would be chaos in the records department because they would think you were just a student they could match a name with.

Anyways, I just think you would spend a lot of time answering the question of who are you? I think you would even have to go to some therapy for it. You might start thinking you are a nobody because you are named after a nobody. Oh how messed up you would be. hmm I think I might actually do that to my child. Don't worry I will find a way even if my last name isn't Doe.
